About the position
The Director of Engineering has overall responsibility for all existing MRSI/Mycronic products. This includes management of derivatives (of existing products), project commitments (for standard products), design quality, budget and growth of a multi-disciplinary technical staff, and knowledge of ISO processes. A successful Director of Engineering is organized and detail oriented; excels in technical program/ project management; communicates with ease at all levels; thrives in a fast-paced development environment and works well within a team structure to deliver results.


Key Responsibilities
• Lead overall engineering organization
o Organize, manage, and grow technical staff to ensure sufficient capacity and capability to meet aggressive business unit revenue goals
o Develop an in-depth knowledge of all products with the ability to contribute (as needed) with hands-on debugging and supporting application engineering.
o Build an effective Engineering team across ME, EE/Controls, Software, and Systems Engineering disciplines
o Provide regular and accurate reporting on project status and resource capability.
o Effectively document and transfer relevant products information to operations.
o Manage engineering support resources including doc-control, tech-pubs, and engineering labs.
o Manage sustaining engineering across all products.
o Develop and manage overall Engineering budget.
• Effectively engage with peers across broader organization
o Work with Product Management, and Applications Engineering to strategize and implement new product features as needed.
o Coordinate Sustaining Engineering activities to support field requests and operational objectives.
o Support Applications and Field Service on customer issues as needed.
• Drive continuous improvement across Engineering organization
o Introduce new tools and methods to improve development efficiency and efficacy.
o Develop annual goals and KPIs that are aligned with business unit’s and corporate objectives.
o Develop culture of growth and customer centricity, support staff through assessment and coaching.
o Update and maintain ISO-9001/14001 PLM processes.

Experience and Qualifications
o BS degree in EE, ME, CS or similar engineering discipline; MS preferred
o > 10 years in full life cycle, cross-functional development of new products in capital equipment or industrial automation. Understanding of high-tech manufacturing environment with strong focus on customers and quality.
o Strong engineering and debugging skills with prior hands-on experience in product development, and product engineering
o Broad understanding of mechanical/electrical/electronic assemblies, systems engineering, controls, and software with substantial expertise in at least one domain.
o Familiarity with ISO-9001/14001 or similar quality systems.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach. The employee is also frequently required to make substantial movements/motions of the wrist, hand and fingers. The employee will be required to perform sedentary work, occasionally required to exert up to 10 pounds of force but usually required to sit for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current and exposure to heat and/or chemicals.
