IPC Announces New ESD Control Certification Courses on IPC EDGE

Oct 16, 2016

Courses provide professional credentials for Certified ESD Trainers (CETs) and ESD Certified Operators (ECOs)

IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries®, is announcing an ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Control certification course for electronics assembly trainers and operators. The courses and certifications will be delivered on the IPC learning management system, IPC EDGE. Together with the EOS/ESD Association, Inc., IPC has developed these standardized ESD training and certification courses for the electronics industry to train operators and trainers on ESD controls and best practices. This online ESD Certification Program allows users to validate their knowledge and skills by passing an exam on ESD principles. For trainers, the ESD certification course was developed with an advanced training program to train instructors, thereby providing the necessary knowledge to help develop an effective ESD training program.

With semiconductor devices becoming more ESD sensitive every day, many companies require ESD training that clearly outlines the specific ESD technical requirements of the organization where they work. Ronald Gibson, certification chair for the EOS/ESD Association, Inc., indicates that, “Education is the key requirement in preparing manufacturing to handle future ESD sensitive device designs and will be required throughout all facets of the organization from the personnel handling the products to engineering and supervisors or management.” This course provides the training needed to master both basic and advanced topics pertaining to ESD. Further, compliance with this program, when adopted, applies to any person in the organization that handles ESD sensitive products.

Through this course, operators will learn to demonstrate commitment to rigorous performance requirements, master expertise and commitment to quality and compliancy of ESD practices, meet the requirements for ANSI/S20.20 for ESD control, and gain valuable industry recognition within the electronics industry supply chain. In the end, completing the course and passing the exam will allow operators to facilitate quality assurance initiatives that have become important throughout the global electronics industry.

As a result, certified operators will be best prepared to control ESD within their own operations. Companies will be provided with better skilled employees capable of managing common ESD practices worldwide. For more information on this training and certification course, visit www.ipc.org/edge.
