IPC Tackles Wide Range of EMS Topics at APEX 2002

Nov 05, 2001

IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries will cover numerous crucial Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) topics at its upcoming EMS Management Council Meeting. The meeting, which will be held in conjunction with IPC SMEMA Council's APEX, will take place Monday, January 21, 2002, 1:30-5:15 p.m., and Tuesday, January 22, 2002, 7:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m., at the San Diego Convention Center.

Jack Calderon, Lincoln Partners, and J. Keith Dunne, Robertson Stephens, will discuss recent industry trends and major mergers and acquisitions in their separate sessions. Later, Calderon and Dunne will join Susan Jackson, Metawave Communications, for a panel discussion on the secrets to conducting a successful divestiture with a small OEM.

Circuit Service Inc., President and CEO C. James Herring will also share industry-specific techniques for asset-based management and asset-based lending, while Rob Rodin, president of eConnections, will discuss extended supply chain intelligence.

"Our goal is to provide EMS executives with an abundance of information pertinent to their bottom line," said Lisa Griffin, IPC director of Assembly Industry Programs. "And since this forum is designed by EMS executives for fellow EMS executives, we know the EMS Management Council Meeting will hit its mark."

Donna Shirley will deliver the keynote presentation. Shirley's message, entitled "Managing Creativity," will detail the strategies for energizing group creativity that she developed as manager of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Mars Exploration Program and leader of the team that built the Sojourner Rover.

APEX has been organized by the IPC SMEMA Council in response to an industry need for a trade show that is cost-effective and fair for exhibitors, and highly focused on the products and technology of the electronics assembly industry. This approach, coupled with a premier conference program, organized by the industry, delivers the most attractive package to exhibition visitors. APEX features all segments of the electronics assembly industry, from bare boards to tested assemblies, and is the only show in North America that showcases machinery from every major pick-and-place equipment manufacturer.

IPC is a U.S.-based trade association dedicated to the competitive excellence and financial success of its more than 2,800 member companies which represent all facets of the electronic interconnection industry, including design, printed wiring board manufacturing and electronics assembly. As a member-driven organization and leading source for industry standards, training, market research and public policy advocacy, IPC supports programs to meet the needs of a $44 billion U.S. industry employing more than 400,000 people.
