The new connectors conform to the Infiniband architecture's 4X interface.
Honda's solution differs from other Infiniband connectors with a design that eases the assembly process: the signal pins are located on one side and ground on other, to make them easier to track out; and insulation displacement (IDC) is used for the cable side to simplify assembly.
Infiniband is the open standard specification for input/output connectivity in data networks with speeds of 2.5Gbit/s and upwards.
With appropriate technology, it is infinitely scalable upwards for fast, distributed computing environments.
Key features of the Honda connectors include matched impedance (100ohm +/-10%) and low insertion loss.
The socket for the PCB has an easy-to-use PCB mount and low cost setup charge resulting from Honda's original design, which comprises two pieces - connector body and SMT mount PCB connectors.
The plug for the cable enables easy cable assembly as a result of Honda's original design structure for design to cable termination.
The Infiniband 4X I/O connectors from Honda are available now, and the 12X connectors will be available in June 2003.
