"A new air of optimism has returned to the global electronics industry," said Robert Göthner, Senior Vice President & General Manager. "In 2010, producers freed up capital to upgrade older equipment and increase production capacity." He points to market data showing that the Chinese electronics market is performing better than prior to the financial crises in 2008. In addition to opening a new Shanghai office to serve this fast-growing market, the company also saw positive growth signs in the US and Europe as the global semiconductor business picked up by 33 percent last year.
MYDATA, today a key brand and business area within Micronic Mydata AB (publ), reported net sales of SEK 615 million in 2010, an increase of 30 percent compared with 2009, and order intake increased with 54 percent.
Innovative technology catches on
One key success factor has been the Micronic Mydata merger, announced in 2009, which has gone smoothly despite a severe recession. Another is the positive, industry-wide adoption of the company’s high-end MY100DX pick-and-place machine, which experienced a 200 percent growth in sales, along with its jet printing technology, now used by more than a hundred of demanding producers globally. Jet printing is a new, stencil-free method of applying solder paste on circuit boards that allows for agile, on-the-spot changes and higher levels of quality and design.
Focusing on business as usual
"When the market froze up in 2009, we worked hard to rationalize our operations and stay focused on ‘business as usual’,” says Göthner. “Now we’re seeing the results through our sales and services organization."
Over the years, MYDATA has carved out a global reputation for its flexible mounting solutions in high-mix electronic production – specializing in a high number of small- to medium-sized batches of components. Customers typically include original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the industrial, aerospace, medical or telecom sectors, as well as contract manufacturers.
"We are committed to continuing to serve customers that need flexible mounting solutions, and we will continue to invest in developing our platforms. In the year ahead we will be launching a suite of new, faster and more flexible products that are fully compatible with its current, popular MY100 series platform. Keep your eyes open for more news" Göthner concludes.
