PDR Americas Launches the First Intra-Ocular-Adjustable Thermal Sensor for High-End Rework

Oct 17, 2016

PDR Americas, a leader in IR rework, test and inspection, today introduced the EMS industry’s first intra-ocular-adjustable ‘read zone’ thermal sensor for high-end rework. The rework-specific temperature sensor has been specifically engineered for rework environments, providing the accuracy and confidence needed for high-yield rework program success.

This upgraded version of PDR’s Analog Z-Class sensors is now available with embedded digital technology designed for 10th order polynomial resolution to provide the most accurate sensing technology in its class. Accurate to within +- 1 percent at 250°C, PDR’s latest rework sensor also provides precise intra-ocular LED targeting of the area to be measured, thus eliminating independent laser finders that require merging the detector, the laser, and distance to target.

Made in the U.S.A. and specifically designed for rework applications, PDR’s Z+ Class thermal sensors are focusable to measure single point surface area targets within a diameter range of to 1mm-12mm without having to account for distance to target calculations. This versatility offers accurate in-process control for densely populated PCB rework tasks involving very small packages in addition to QFNs, QFPs, microBGAs, connectors and high sphere count super BGAs.

PDR’s Z+ Class sensor technology works by optically targeting the object to be measured through the sensor lens (intraocular sighting), thereby resulting in concentric agreement between where you want to measure and the sensor actually measuring what you want to measure. Literally a WYSIWYG sensor incorporating a visible LED pulse emitted from the detection chip, the LED target (IC and/or PCB surface) i.e. “Read Point”, and the area being measured are of equal proportion. This patented design therefore lends itself to synchronous “read point” adjustment from a 1mm – 12mm spot size while keeping the temperature detection area and targeting LED “illumination” spot diameter equal in size.

This technology provides not only highly accurate temperature readings but offers the operator a visual target identifier while your PDR system is in process. See the LED size, what you get is the same area being measured. Again, a PDR first and testimony to PDR’s commitment to provide the industry with next-generation products and tools for greater productivity.

PDR Rework Systems remains at the forefront of rework technology by providing air nozzle free systems with advanced in-process control features and visible light that takes the guesswork out of rework.
