SMART Group, Europe’s largest technical trade association focusing on surface mount and related technologies, announces that it hosted a successful seminar at Aero Engine Controls, Birmingham, England on 19th June 2013.
The UK Aerospace and Defense sector relies heavily upon the design and manufacture of high-reliability electronics. High-reliability electronics also plays a key role in other areas such as the automotive and medical electronics industries. The importance of electronics was reflected by the sold out audience that attended SMART’s recent seminar.
The standing-room only audience, which included delegates from all over Europe, heard eight papers covering a range of subjects from novel laminate types and solder selection to test methods, design and final coatings. The day started with a review of laminate types, drawing on decades of experience in this zone and ranged forward to include novel new materials, interesting ways of using older interconnect technologies, as well as detailing industry funded research into failure modes. These have resulted in promising new test methods and pointed to new areas of study.
