Proximity System Test Kit

The specialized nature of proximity probe measurements requires a specialized calibration instrument, capable of introducing fixed gap (i.e., position), changing gap (i.e., vibration), and rotative speed signals into the transducer for verification and testing purposes.

The fixed gap is provided by clamping the probe into a stationary position while a movable target on a spindle micrometre is adjusted.

Simulated vibration is provided by clamping the probe into a movable swing arm, observing a precision-machined wobble plate that rotates, introducing a known amount of changing gap with each rotation.

Finally, shaft rotative speed is simulated by observing a Keyphasor notch on the side of the rotating wobble plate. All of these functions are packed in a portable kit, designed specifically to endure the rigours of field use. It allows users to test and verify the entire measurement path, from the tip of the probe all the way through to the monitor’s visual indicators, relay contacts and digital/analog interfaces.

Proximity Sensor

A proximity sensor is a non-contact sensor that detects the presence of an object (often referred to as the “target”) when the target enters the sensor’s field. Depending on the type of proximity sensor, sound, light, infrared radiation (IR), or electromagnetic fields may be utilized by the sensor to detect a target. Proximity sensors are used in phones, recycling plants, self-driving cars, anti-aircraft systems, and assembly lines. There are many types of proximity sensors, and they each sense targets in distinct ways. The two most commonly used proximity sensors are the inductive proximity sensor and the capacitive proximity sensor.

An inductive proximity sensor can only detect metal targets. This is because the sensor utilizes an electromagnetic field. When a metal target enters the electromagnetic field, the inductive characteristics of the metal change the field’s properties, thereby alerting the proximity sensor of the presence of a metallic target. Depending on how inductive the metal is, the target can be detected at either a greater or shorter distance.

Capacitive proximity sensors, on the other hand, are not limited to metallic targets. These proximity sensors are capable of detecting anything that can carry an electrical charge. Capacitive sensors are commonly used in liquid-level detection. Possible targets for capacitive sensors include but are but not limited to: glass, plastic, water, wood, metals, and a myriad of targets of other materials.

Another type of proximity sensor is called a photoelectric proximity sensor. There are two main types of photoelectric proximity sensors: reflective and through-beam. Reflective proximity sensors detect objects when the light emitted from the sensor is reflected back at the photoelectric receiver. Through-beam sensors detect targets when the target breaks the beam of light between the sensor’s emitter and receiver.

Two other commonly used proximity sensors are magnetic proximity sensors and ultrasonic proximity sensors. Magnetic proximity sensors are only used to detect permanent magnets. Ultrasonic proximity sensors emit a high pitch sound. The distance between the sensor and the target is determined by how long the sound takes to reflect back to the sensor.

Acceleration Transducers

Acceleration transducer converts the acceleration of running vehicle or the vibration of car body or machinery into minute voltage to enable accurate measurement of acceleration or vibration with various measuring instruments. Each model is compact and lightweight and ensures superior static and dynamic characteristics. Various rated capacities cover a wide scope of applications.

Piezo-velocity Sensors

Piezo-velocity Sensors are designed to measure absolute (relative to free space) bearing housing, casing, or structural vibration. It is a specialized piezoelectric accelerometer that incorporates embedded integrated electronics in a solid-state design.

It incorporates solid-state electronics and has no moving parts, it does not suffer from mechanical degradation and wear, and can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at any other angle of orientation.

Transient Data Interface

Transient Data Interface (TDI) is the interface between the monitoring system and compatible software. The TDI combines the function of a rack interface module (RIM) with the data collection capability of a communication processor. It interfaces with the monitors to continuously collect steady-state and transient dynamic (waveform) data and pass this data through an Ethernet link to the host software.

Enhanced Keyphasor Module

This module is used to provide Keyphasor signals to the monitor modules in a rack. The module receives input signals from proximity probes or magnetic pickups and converts the signals to digital Keyphsor signals that indicate when the Keyphasor mark on  the shaft coincides with the Keyphasor transducer

Seismic Monitor

Seismic Monitor protects machinery by continuously comparing monitored parameters against configured alarm setpoints to drive alarms. It communicates essential machine information to both operations and maintenance personnel. It accepts input from proximity and seismic transducers. It conditions the signal to provide vibration and position measurements and compares the conditioned signals with user-programmable alarms.
