New software and higher-capacity storage system will significantly boost material handling productivity

Nov 15, 2013

At Productronica 2013, MYDATA will present new higher-capacity SMD tower models and improved control software that enables increased uptime and reduced changeover costs.

According to the MIT Technology Review, the biggest productivity gains in electronics manufacturing and other industries today are being fueled by “robots, automation and software”. In its June 2013 issue, the magazine cited a study showing a diverging gap between rising industrial productivity and flat long-term employment dating back to 2000. Although controversial, it is an observation that fits well with the future roadmap of MYDATA, the global SMT innovator, which continues to bring “productivity boosters” to the SMT industry across many application areas.

The era of software is upon us

I believe we are witnessing an acceleration in the need for more fully integrated factories where software and inventory management are absolutely critical,” says Robert Göthner, General Manager Business Area SMT at Micronic Mydata. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re doing new product introductions (NPIs) or higher volume production, there’s simply no room for any non-value-adding operations on the shop floor. The only way to handle such complex environments - at all speeds - is with flexible machines, integrated user-friendly software and advanced inventory management tools.

New automation solutions at Productronica

To underscore its point, MYDATA will be displaying a range of new, highly compact automated storage towers as well as next-generation software solutions designed to improve control and efficiency in SMT production. The new solutions will be presented to the press and visitors at the Productronica 2013 trade show in Munich, Germany on November 12 – 15 (Booth A3 241).

Reductions in kitting time with compact tower

One of the big steps forward is our improved SMD Tower, which can now store 22% more components in the same one-meter footprint,” says Göran Frank, Product Manager Storage Solutions. He points out that the new range of towers is among the industry’s most compact and scalable. They will allow the automatic storage and delivery of up to 400 part numbers on pre-loaded Agilis feeders. The new feature will enable manufacturers to constantly store and retrieve their most frequently used components, always prepared for job changes. Adds Frank: “Our aim is to reduce changeover times to a bare minimum – making changing from one job to another as simple as it could possibly be.”

Improved control and efficiency

Even more critical to inventory management is the software solution for improving control and efficiency at all stages of production. To this end, MYDATA has now introduced its MYCenter 3.0 software update, which can be integrated into all types of production environments. The new software is part of MYDATA’s ongoing effort to offer customers the best-integrated and most user-friendly software suites. The software’s main modules cover machine programming, data import and material handling – all unified into a highly intuitive graphic interface.

At the end of the day, we know that customers want to get their inventory onto and off of the machine as quickly as possible,” says Frank. “In today’s fast-moving environment you need to be lean, nimble and responsive - whether you’re producing for the medical industry, aeronautics sector or automotive.”

To find out more about these solutions and see how MYDATA is bringing high-mix solutions to the entire industry, please stop by our booth at Productronica. We’d also be happy to set up an interview with one of our specialists.
