What would be the best software packages available to produce assembly programs from basic gerber data?I'm using FUJI CP3 & IP1 M/C's with fujiflexa software.

Mostly, you don't want to do that. Whoever designed the PCB should be able to produce a "pick and place report" or similar file that lists components by designator (R123) component value/type (100 Ohm 0805) and XY and rotation. If there's absolutely no way to get this data, it is a pain and error-prone to make it from the Gerber files.

I agree with Jon, that using Gerber data is a pain in the butt, but that doesn't answer your question about what software to use.

CircuitCAM, VALOR, UniCAM (now Tecnomatix), and GC Place are the more popular third party software packages that deal directly with Gerber and native CAD files. There are a few others out there, such as Sony's TiMMS, but they are not widely used in the market.

I am sure if you search the archives here you will find some old discussions regarding some of these software packages.

Talk with their distributors and get a live demo using your own supplied Gerber data. Don't send it to them ahead of time where they can prepare a well greased demo. Show it to them on the spot and really see how they can handle your Gerber data.

Hi

Try Unisoft (founded 1986) they are reasonibly priced and program your assembly machine from either gerber or CAD - 203-913-0782.

The software you need is called ProntoPLACE ( http://www.unisoft-cim.com/pcbplace.htm ). Programs and optimizes PCB assembly machines offline. ProntoPLACE ( http://www.unisoft-cim.com/pcbplace.htm ) uses either raw Gerber or standard CAD files to create assembly equipment setup files in minutes and also creates assembly and work instructions sheets.
