flame retardant deca-BDE ban | 16 December, 2008

Here's a new ban proposal by the EU on the flame retardant deca-BDE. A product that has kept our electronics safe for over decades.

The good part is that the scientific community in the EU looks like to put up a bigger resistance as was the case with the lead ban.

I so agree with the argument that it is wrong to: ban substances which have been demonstrably proven to be safe and impose the use of substances without having demonstrated that they are safe to use.

We have seen the same happen with the lead ban only with a lot less resistance.

NEW ban proposal? It was exempted from ROHS and that exemption was lifted during the summer.

I made a post about it no longer being allowed back in July. Here's a link I posted. http://www.rsjtechnical.com/NewsDecaBDE.htm

Stephen,

You're absolutely correct I totally miswrote the post. What I wanted to highlight is the efforts from the reachforlife organization. Decision making should be based on scientific evidence.
