Hi, I need to start measuring the stencil tension at my factory. Does anybody know a good tensiometer to tell me? A good brand and trustable? Thanks!

I used this for a couple of weeks some years ago, I was able to detect some issues whith some stenciles, but I did not use it for a long time, it may help you.

I also was kind of wondering to why you need to measure stencil tension.

This is a requested point from some customers. It's part of the audit check points. But I agree it´s important for the process. You can garantee the stencil is in a good condition after many time using it. If your stencil looses the tension, you can face some issues during the printing process as shorts and insufficient solder.

Manoel, We have never heard of such a request from a customer. I can't say that we have ever had issues with stencil tension unless we were using frameless foils or the binding came loose.

I also never heard of that. Even if you measured the stencil tension what would be the spec be and how would that even relate to quality. Other than the stencil just flopping around I doubt that minor changes in screen tension are going to change anything. I would ask your customer to give you their specification for stencil tension. I would be real interested in what they came back with.

One of our customers also recommend us to check the stencil tension, they say that the stencil must keep its tension according to manufacturer spec, (36N for most cases), We are not doing it for now, and I dont really think low tension can generate such defects, I remember to see stencils even whith broken mesh printing well at least >0805

Things of this nature make us raise an eyebrow. Something along the lines of automatic solder paste mixers......
