Mirtec Training Request | 31 January, 2013

Hello, We have just aquired an MV-2HTL AOI with the NG marker option. We are looking for someone familiar with these machines to provide training. I have programmed a board already using the manuals but am not confident as to what values and passing scores should be used. The machine is only as good as the program allows it to be and this is why we are looking for some help. We are located in the Rockville MD area. Please contact us and ask for Ryan.

Does anyone have a maintenance manual for this machine? I contacted Mirtec and they wanted alot of money to register the machine before they would offer support. They treat used machines as if they were purchased on the black market.

Hello Phase1,

Depending upon where you purchased your system, chances are that you are running a very old version of software and that the MIL library is also out of date. This will have a big impact on the functionality of your MIRTEC machine. I think your organization should reconsider purchasing MIRTEC's second owner support package. MIRTEC charges a flat $6,000.00 fee plus travel expenses for our second owner support package. This package inlcudes three days of on site training, upgrade to our latest version of software and unlimited telephone and Webex support. Our second owner support fee is quite reasonble compared with other vendors.

The fact is that we at MIRTEC want all those who purchase our equipment to be successful. We do not discriminate against second owners. But you must realize that there is most definately a cost associated with second owner support.

Those who elect to purchase second owner support will get up to speed QUICKLY allowing them to maximize the investment in their second hand MIRTEC AOI system. Those who do not elect to purchase this support package jeopardize the successful implementation of this equipment.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions that you may have regarding our second owner support package.

Phase 1 Seems expensive, but I assure you, the $ outlay will be well worth it in the long run. If you are new to AOI, or new to Mirtec AOI, my suggestion would be to register your machine with Mirtec, and then take advantage of the support they offer. Yes, your machine cost just went up $6K , but hopefully you didn't pay too much for the machine, relative to a new one. The libraries in the Mirtec software are fairly comprehensive, and the default settings will improve your inspections right off the bat. If you have decided to jump into the AOI pool, this will be good $ spent. Get your machine up to current spec, and then lean on Mirtec for EVERYTHING supportwise. They will accomodate you.

Though I use Mirtec AOI (in addition to other platforms as well), I receive no benefit from Mirtec, nor do I have any affiliation with anyone from the company.

I just think you should start your journey with a full tune up, fresh manuals, software, and instruction. Maximize the benefit of the investment into the machine.

Ok we have to admit that for some reason you went for the used machine, but the $6000 are worth it, I have 2 of the same machine without the NG marker, and in 4 years (the newest one ) and like 6 o more of the old one, there have not been a mech problem with them, or software issue with them, well in the software side do backups weekly to release some hard disk space since the partition where the defects images are store can get full very quickly, whet I did is to have a second HD install with a 1 TB of space and do the backups there and I have no problem, the support and training are worth it, been programming over 4 years now on both machines! with the in site training John give us!

Is there alot more to training than what the manuals spec out? The machine came with training outlines that seem to be a condensed form for programming everything from chips to fine pitch etc. Im not sure if this doccument came from Mirtec or the company we bought it from made one up. I programmed a board using the included documents and was able to get it up and running just not sure if 50% passing scores on chip mounting pattern inspection is ok to use. I wasnt able to get that passing score much higher and still be reliable even with using multiple images from different boards. Same thing goes for the solder inspection. Dont know what is really accurate and I dont want to just make it pass by lowering the values.

On another note, we are a smaller company and the 6k minimun for training (I was verbally told 7K) is more than 50% of what we paid for the machine. We have an older benchtop Yestech that we are replacing so we are not new to AOI, just to this platform and software. I was told the version of software we have is the most current release by Mirtec support.

Are there any owner operators that can chime in on the value of this package offered by mirtec?

Tant caps custom teach checking for pattern/value Do you also put a polarity band check in there or just check the value and click the polarity box? same passing values as res/caps above

SOIC/QFP Mounting window-use whole body and a bit of leads for a contrast difference. Search range low 10-15% Mask out part markings for mounting insp with 45% match pattern match to contain part number- 50-60% match with search range 25% polarity checked Alternate part numbers get another mounting box and selecting -OR-Group Bridge checker-set direction of leads lead insp tab check Horiz light 120 manual threshold pass stripe 0 lead seperation tab-Horiz lighting, manual threshold 90 pass stripe 0 check solder inspp box lead tip tab-manual mode adjust as nesscary solder insp tab-light=H+V low to high transition threshold manual 30

Does this seem about right or am I way off base.

That all sounds about right. Few minor differences in acceptance rates (I like to have it around 60% to catch missing parts) but it's a close mirror to what we run. As for the tant caps, we have better luck searching for the markings to verfy polarity; the bands vary too much for my liking.

Good to hear, thanks for the response. Once you get the program fine tuned, do you generally have most boards that are inspected pass with the green good screen or do you generally have to review a few defects? OF course this all depends on passing rates the user sets.

Now its time to start testing the program by intentionally shorting leads and unsoldering half of a few components to see how senstitive it is.

It's pretty rare for a board to come out with the GOOD indicator save for consistent through-hole assemblies but that's why we have a good Repair Plus operator.
