Samsung/Hanwha Maintenance - Which Grease? | 5 March, 2020

Hello,

Was hoping to hear from fellow users of the Samsung/Hanwha SM4xx series. We currently have an SM482 and we were hoping to do some much need maintenance on it. Specifically, we are wanting to clean and grease the X & Y LM rails and Ball Screws.

Our dilemma is that the maintenance handbook we received with the machine has two different listings for the grease to use and where -- it mentions both THK AFE-CA & Shell Alvania (EP2) to be used both for the ball screws and LM rails.

Which grease and where do you guys use for maintaining your machines?

Thanks.

it is not that big deal. you can use almost any generic grease. I use SKF bearing grease on CP45FV's. Just make sure you remove old grease, I use IPA and compressed air to do this. And don't put too much of it or too little. After greasing everything start warmup for 5 min to spread it evenly.

We have mainly Philips equipment and use Alvania almost everywhere in them. Ball screws/linear rails etc . As has been mentioned, just clean as much of the old grease off as you can, then regrease and put the machine on a warm up cycle. We do this monthly, doesn't take long

Shell Gadus S2 V220 is the new version of Alvania.

You can get it from McMaster

Is there any recommendation you'd have when adding grease - how many pumps into the grease adapters would you do? Should you visually see the grease coating the entire ball screw / LM rail?

What other maintenance items/tasks do you guys perform on your machines on a regular basis? We fortunately gotten away with doing little to no maintenance on ours in the 5 years we've been using it.

Blimey, You've done well !

apart from the monthly clean/regrease/calibrate placement we clean the cameras periodically ( build up of dust over time on the lens ), There may also be some air intake filters that will occasionally need a clean, but we do this 'as and when' rather than follow a specific timeframe schedule. Running repairs are done as noticed/needed ( air leaks, loose screws etc ). Basically though if you keep on top of the cleaning and greasing up , that covers the bulk of the issues you may get. Software backups are done every few months - never had to revert to a backup but it's prudent

check vacuum filters of spindles, you can get paste inside and reduce vacuum level.
