Sorry for such a generic response, but you should consider SPI if you are not happy with the results of your printer. That is probably measured by defects at the AOI. SPI machines are quite expensive. I don't see the point of them when you can just buy a better printer with AOI/SPI all in the same machine.

SPI is especially useful when you start going to lower pitch/size components. Best use is inline to identify issues. It is a powerful tool in the right hands and a burden when operated by wrong people. I value it more than the AOI equipment.

Building on what Evtimov said, folks who are not familiar with SPI get freaked out when they first deploy it. You need to have an understanding of whats going on and how to adjust when you get "failures"

I would advise that anyone who is going to put together a solid SMT process implements SPI. ESPECIALLY if you don't have AOI
