Energy Police In Germany | 6 November, 2021

A friend told me a story about "energy police" that are auditing power consumption in German electronics Manufacturing plants. A major upshot of this appears to be the concern of auditors is the always "ON" of wave soldering and reflow machines.

Is this true?

If so, how are manufacturers dealing with restrictions in Power usage?

Can you give documentation, newspaper articles, etc of this policy?

Found with google, may be relevant https://www.researchgate.net/publication/295084344_A_Study_on_Electric_Energy_Consumption_of_Manufacturing_Companies_in_the_German_Industry_with_the_Focus_on_Electric_Drives

In any case, the number of wave soldering machines in Germany can't be that big compared to the total standby power consumed by all the tv's, wall warts and other consumer electronic equipment connected 24hrs/7days...

What exactly counts as "always on"? Our ROHS wave solder machine is always on during the week but the pot shuts off at the end of the shift and turns on early in the morning so that the solder is melted before we get to work. It is only using a small fraction of power when it is in standby mode.

The tin/lead one isn't used as much so we only turn it on when we are going to use it that day.
