0402 components in a 2mm pitch | 5 October, 1998

Most of the older placement machines might not have a 2mm advancing feeder. Here is how I get by picking from a 8 mm feeder without loosing every second component. 1. Define a second component in the BOM. 2. Define this component in the feeder set up file to be picked from a vibratory feeder. 3. Re-write the placement program that it places the two components in a sequence C1, C2, C1, C 2 ... 4. Teach the pick up position from the vibratory feeder into the first pocket of the tape feeder. Run the placement program. The machine should pick from the faked vibratory feeder but actually picking from the tape feeder without advancing the tape feeder. On the next component it picks from the tape feeder this time advancing the feeder and exposing two new components. At least this works on my machine.
