Recomandation for purchase of SMT lines | 9 January, 2002

I was contacted in order to set up a factory in order to produce home and car alarms equipment. I wish to use a fully automatic SMT line. That is I want a pcb unloader, glue dispenser, conveyers, Pick and Place machine and unloader. The maximum board size should be more 250mm * 250mm. The minimum speed should be not less 1500cph. I would like to hear recomendations both on the machinery and the service.In addition I would like to have the email addresses of interested suppliers (both new and second hand lines are considered). The country the machine will be delivered to is Malta and good after sales services should be part of the purchase agreement.

You can combine a full line of the same customer. Must customer have this option.

I wished, I would get a job like that. Malta is a nice spot! With 1500 Cph you can select any machine on the market, but here are some questions. If you use a glue machine you apparently deal with mixed technology boards. If your volume is that low, that you can effort 1500 Cph, than the board loader un-loader do not make much sense. I would leave that task for the operator.

Although I deal with used machines myself, I do not recommend buying used equipment for start up companies, not for remote manufacturing places and not for just in time delivery terms.

Mydata and Siemens have good support and service in Europe. You may want to contact both directly and ask for their recommendation in the other processing machines.

Dont forget, if you dont want to print paste and deal with the challenges of placing components in wet paste, solid solder deposit can save you the cost of the stencil printer, while offering better first pass yields than traditional methods. It just depends on how tough the boards are and if they can support the cost of ssd.
