We have recently aquired an MPM SPM stencil printer with an under stencil wiper. I have a list of approved solvents from MPM, but before I go and buy one I thought I would see what the fine people of SMTnet are using for their wiper solvent needs.

i have always found any of the alcohol based solvents good.here in the uk we use the alpha make.with screen auto wipes i found the set up to be most important.i.e how many pcb's printed before wiping.i found running pcbs with bga and .50 pitch components it was neccessary to wipe every ten pcb's. the programme i used was dry wet dry.

We tried Ionox BC in our MPM, but evidently a feed line came loose allowing the Ionox to spray, flood, whatever on the inside of the machine. The Ionox ate through some of the insulation on the wires. As long as it stayed in the plumbing, it worked OK.

I would try it dry first, we have never used solvents in our SPM, AP-20 or UP2000. Wipe every 4 to 10 boards. Normally dont have to wipe when using epxoy.

I agree with dry wiping. We have 4 SPM's and 2 AP25's, we have never had a need for solvent.

I would be cautious using alcohol/ or alcohol based solvents.

Solvent for a stencil printer | 17 February, 2004

Speedline MPM has recently completed a study on solvents that are available to use in stencil wiper solvent systems. Until now there has been a small number of solvents that have been deemed safe to use. This was due to the fact that a majority of the solvents that are available on the market today, have extremely low flash points or have been found to cause deterioration to our solvent system.

I have an MPM SPM and two Ekra E4 screen printers. I have always run them dry with vacuum. I am also using no-clean paste and have not had a problem. The volume I run per day on the machines is 4 - 6,000 bds

I have used MPM 3000 and Dek 265 Horizon. We always just fill them up with regular old alcohol. Cheapest and easiest way to maintain.
