I have a need to put many different Tape and Reel parts into trays in order to free up feeder space on my QP3. My question is does anyone know of any resources where I can specify my part dimensions and have tray stock milled out to present these parts to my machine via the tray tower (at a reasonable cost). I have already went the route of pricing at some Tape and Reel Vendors and was very surprised at the exorbitant pricing for custom made trays.

Have you tried someone like KOSTAT? It looks to me like they probably already have trays in just about every configuration. at least 90% of our trays come from them.

If you need tray dimensions, try this:

You should be able to find just about any tray spec there. Finding actual trays to accomodate your part is another story. I have a box of empty trays that I don't know what to do with so if you can give me information on the part(s), I can see if I have them in the pile.

You need to got to Nix of America's website.

They have a fixture that you can slide strips of carrier tape into.

Just so you have something to compare with, Fuji also carries a solution for your current issue. It allows them to place tape parts on a fixture that allows you to fit up to 20 different parts in the tray tower. It looks like a std. JEDEC tray, but allows you the height of a one inch component. Call their applications guys, they obviously know more than I do about this.
