We have four new MY12's running version 2.4.3i software. Three have been having a problem shutting down tpsys. This has happened when the machine has been running a program and when editing programs and packages. Anyone seen this problem or something similar?

"We have four new MY12's running version 2.4.3i software."

New? Call MyData, dumb-ass.

I have called Mydata. I just wanted to see if this is isolated or not. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm sure your time is very valuable.

Hi Ken.

Is this happening on all of your machines, or isolated to just one? The first question I would have is to find out if it is networked. If so, if you isolate the machine(s), does it continue? It could be your network settings (bad values, or a rouge IP address somewhere else on the network).

Avalancher,

This has happened on three machines but more so on one. Each line has two machines with one line networked through the house network and the other line uses a hub to to share databases between only these two machines(this line is temporarily situated, it will be connected to the house network when moved permanently). We did isolate the machine that had the most problems and the problem still occured. This was on the line that uses a hub and I beleive the settings are factory settings.

Ken,

We have that same version of software and have never had this issue be a real problem. I can say that we have had the machine hang on shutdown after 8 hours of furious editing, but very few and far between.

If you go to another virtual terminal window (Alt+F3, for example) and type in this at the command prompt

top

and hit enter, you will see a list of running processes on the linux system (task manager under windows...). If you wish, jot down the PID, then enter this at a command prompt after using Ctrl+c to stop the top screen.

kill -9 (PID number)

For example, if I have a PID of 356, the command would be thus: kill -9 356.

Also, while you are in there, take a good look at some of the stuff you have running. If you have an operator that has some Linux experience, who knows what they may be doing if your virtual terminals are not locked out? Lastly, if you have various people logging in through the Apache server, you may want to limit their interactions. The machine is only running a 166 mhz processor, so it is not well suited for heavy 'web' traffic.

Hope these help.

Dan

Dan,

The machine is not stuck on some process but shuts tpsys down. It prompts for a status save and reboots tpsys.

Thanks

We have an earlier version of TPSYS. 2.4.1c We see this happen occasionally as well. It only seems to happen on our MY-12 machine. Our TP-11's never do it to my knowledge.

I highly doubt that it is isolated to your company. If your machines are new, get Mydata in there ASAP while you are under warrantee.

When it prompts for the save staus and reboots does it keep rebooting over and over? And does it come up with the error message cannot connect to MYSERV?

Sr. Tech,

Mydata is aware of the problem. How often does it happen on your machine? Has anything been done to resolve the problem? The saved status from our machine has been sent to Sweden for analysis.

Thanks

Bruce,

It reboots tpsys. I had to do a "fsck /dev/hda7/" once. I'm not familiar with MYSERV. Is this Mydata's server package?

What Bruce is referring to is a TPSys Data server. You can give it any name that you like (in Bruce's case, it must be called MyServ). I think what he is asking is after the reboot, does it have trouble reconnecting to the 'master' (whether that be a database server or a machine acting as a server). If it is, then you are looking at a network hangup of some kind.

You should do, as people suggested, a Save Status and send it to Mydata. It will allow them to see what it going on.

Toby,

The saved status files were sent to Sweden over a week ago and no response from them yet.

Ken, It happens about two or three times a month on my shift. I am sure that it happens on other shifts as well.

I have not even bothered sending the status to Mydata. I have a difficult enough time getting answers on things "out of the norm" from Boston let alone Sweden.

FYI: I have never got answer from Sweden on anything that I can remeber. Mydata does post a 24 hour support number for Sweden on their website. I always wanted to call it, but never have. Here is the link:

Its funny we are talking about this. I just had an operator come tell me there is a problem with our MY12....Guess what ... He tells me it is happening once a shift.

Well my problem wound up being the intel modem cards Mydata started using. They got a hold of some of the old 3 com modem cards and my problem went away completely. It happened on all my machines using these cards. My one machine which had the old card in it never locked and rebooted.

Bruce,

This was one of the first things done. All Intel boards have been replaced and the problem has happened since.

Thanks
