JM™ - HD Series Insulating Fire Brick Description:

Morgan Advanced Materials has added a new type of insulating fire brick (IFB) - the JM™-HD (High-density) series - to its acclaimed range.

Based on slinger technology, the bricks are made from Kaolin and high purity alumina which react together to form Mullite during the firing process, where temperatures can reach in excess of 1400°C.

Morgan IFB products have gained international recognition for their performance in terms of refractory qualities, consistent PLC (permanent linear change), thermal shock resistance and, in particular, their low thermal conductivity.

The products are used for a variety of applications across a number of industries, including the ceramic, chemical processing, glass, and iron sectors. Certain applications require a higher than standard CCS (cold crush strength), which prompted the Morgan research and development team to design a new kind of brick for both mass and batch production.

The range has been extensively tested and meets all of the ASTM quality assurance standards. They are available in a wide range of standard and special shapes in JM 25 HD, JM 26 HD, JM 28 HD and JM 30 HD grades.

The slinger process is essentially the low-pressure extrusion of a wet clay mix containing high levels of burnout additives, with the additional processing step that the semi-extruded material gets ‘slung’ onto a continuous belt to generate additional porosity, before drying and firing.
