Romulus, MI--Saturn Electronics Corporation (SEC), a top ten domestic PCB Fabricator, certified nine employees as IPC-A-600 Certified IPC Application Specialists (CIS) last week.
"It's about gaining a better understanding of both critical quality assurance and the criteria necessary for visual acceptance", said Catherine Zimnicky, Senior Quality Control Specialist at SEC. "In addition, the advanced technologies, like MCPCBs, that we provide our customers make it necessary to stay current with the latest acceptance criteria in accordance with IPC standards. "
CIS training focuses on what line workers, operators, inspectors, engineers and buyers need to know to inspect or make acceptance / rejection decisions regarding bare PC boards.
Specifics covered during certification included: base material surface and subsurface conditions (specifically measling and crazing); solder resist coverage over conductors and registration to lands; conductor width and spacing; annular ring requirements; dielectric material criteria (etchback, voids and resin recession); plated-through hole (PTH) requirements for copper plating thickness, voids, nodules and cracks; and acceptance criteria for metal core printed circuit boards (MCPCBs).
"Since our inception, it has always boiled down to Quality. Our CEO is the head of the Quality Department."
