IPC Releases Long-Range Plan

Nov 06, 2001

IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries has announced its objectives for the future, which were recently approved by its Board of Directors at the 2001 IPC Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.

The plan was developed after several Focus-on-the-Future meetings conducted in 2000 and 2001. The focus groups identified key industry trends and issues, including globalization, mergers and acquisitions, technology, customers, changes in distribution and manufacturing chains, hiring and retaining people and environmental issues. The meetings also addressed IPC programs on membership, standards and technology, professional development and training, government relations, international efforts, meetings and trade shows and communications.

After data from the focus groups were analyzed, a Needs Assessment Survey was created and more than 200 members were polled. The results of the survey and the Focus-on-the-Future meetings were shared with members of the IPC Long-Range Planning Committee at their meeting on July 19, 2001, at IPC headquarters. The following objectives were later adopted by the Board of Directors based on results of the Long-Range Planning Committee and staff recommendations:

Establish IPC as a Recognized Global Association for the Electronics Interconnection Industry

Strengthen IPC's Position as the Industry's Worldwide Standards-Setting Organization

Expand the Reach of IPC to All Membership Segments

Expand IPC's Global Data Collection, Analysis and Dissemination Process

"The IPC Long-Range Plan, in a very real way, is the translation of the needs and desires of a wide range of IPC members into action steps by the Long Range Planning Committee and the IPC Board of Directors," said IPC President Denny McGuirk. "I can't stress enough the hard work that went into development of this plan by the membership and how there was a commonality of direction across all membership segments."

An Executive Summary of the plan, complete with descriptions and strategies, is available on the IPC Web site (www.ipc.org) under "About IPC & Membership."
