Data I/O FlashCORE III Programming Technology to Debut at Productronica

Dec 07, 2009

Data I/O Corporation (NASDAQ: DAIO), the provider of manual and automated device programming solutions, today announced plans to debut its new FlashCORE III programming architecture at Productronica in Hall A2, Stand 329. This new technology will be at the core of every product to be highlighted at this key industry event, scheduled to take place 10th – 13th November at the Munich Trade Fair Center in Munich, Germany.

FlashCORE III is the newest offering of Data I/O's robust FlashCORE programming architecture, which offers significant performance gains by increasing the download and read/write speeds by a factor of ten. With support for the latest flash memory devices including SD, MMC, MoviNAND and iNAND, FlashCORE III is the best programming engine on the market supporting large devices.

"High-density devices and file sizes are increasing at an exponential rate in the automotive and consumer electronic markets," notes Fred Hume, President and CEO. "FlashCORE III eliminates production bottlenecks by delivering vital production throughput gains to customers using cutting edge devices in their products."

Recently, a large wireless handset manufacturer began production of its new product using high-density semiconductor devices. Its current programming solution could not keep up with its demanding production requirements. To solve the problem, the company installed Data I/O's FlashCORE III programmer, allowing it to exceed its production throughput. Data I/O's automated handling systems, the manual programmer FlashPAK III and the Process Control software applications all support FlashCORE III. This allows customers to seamlessly transfer job profiles (algorithms, data files and programming parameters) from design through manufacturing. FlashCORE III also is compatible with all existing FlashCORE algorithms and adapters, giving customers the largest library of NAND support and Bad Block schemes available anywhere. Field upgrade kits are available for existing automated system installations.

FlashCORE III – Powering the Data I/O Engine

Productronica is to be the global platform for Data I/O to highlight products which will now be powered by the FlashCORE III engine. The products to be demonstrated during the four day event include: new FLX500™ compact, self-contained automated system for programming memory and microcontroller devices. At home on the desktop, in the laboratory or on the production line, the FLX500 is designed to drastically reduce quality problems inherent in manual gang programming. The benefits of FLX500 include the fastest changeover times, self-learning plug and play operation, language independent graphical user interface, memory and microcontroller support, a flexible and modular design, outstanding quality, a self contained pneumatic system with minimal noise and requiring no special air facilities, reduced scrap costs and ease of use.

Also incorporating the FlashCORE III technology will be the PS588. The newest member of Data I/O’s PS series of high-speed offline automated device programming systems for high-volume, high-mix applications. PS588 accommodates up to 48 programming sites from the FlashCORE line, or up to 12 Universal Optima programmers to address any device mix. It supports flash memory: NOR, NAND, DiskOnChip, MCP, Microcontrollers and Logic Package Support: DIP, PLCC, SOIC, SON, WSON, SSOP, CSP (uBGA, BGA) QFP, TQFP & TSOP.

Also incorporating FlashCORE III technology will be the ProLINE-RoadRunner™ which is Data I/Os automated inline programming feeder. The RoadRunner removes unprogrammed flash memory devices from tape, programmes four devices in parallel, and then delivers the programmed parts to the pick-up point of the placement machine.

The product offers just-in-time inline programming, rapid ROI, a dramatic reduction in inventory carrying and rework cots and a PC card support for data and job transfer on Windows 95/98, Windows NT/2000 and Windows-XP.

New – Completely new at Productronica will be Data I/O’s latest addition to the family of PS Series Automated Programmers, the PS388. The PS388 follows the award winning PS288 which won an SMT Vision Award and is designed for medium volume/high mix applications. The PS388 also exploits Data I/Os latest FlashCORE III technology and is completely compatible with any PS system. It uses the same user interface, programmers, consumables, algorithms and programming job files are used throughout the PS programming family. These unique attributes enhance productivity and significantly reduce the cost of switching. Additionally, the same feeder options such as tray, tape and tube are available, all part of Data I/O’s modular product concept guaranteeing compatibility and protecting the customer’s investment. The PS388FC has a smaller, compact footprint, designed to fit into less workspace, preserving the valuable production floor.

The Data I/O team looks forward to meeting visitors to Stand 329 in Hall A2. For further information on Data I/O and its latest FlashCORE III technology please visit http://www.dataio.com
